When Perfect Is the Enemy of Good Enough!
James 1:22 - But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves. 23: For if any be a hearer of the word, and not a doer, he is like unto a man beholding his natural face in a glass: 24: For he beholdeth himself, and goeth his way, and straightway forgetteth what manner of man he was. 25: But whoso looketh into the perfect law of liberty, and continueth therein, he being not a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the work, this man shall be blessed in his deed. 26: If any man among you seem to be religious, and bridleth not his tongue, but deceiveth his own heart, this man's religion is vain. 27: Pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father is this, to visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep himself unspotted from the world.
Once saved, the Christian demonstrates his or her faith in the things of God by what they do. Simply put, when a person believes they are capable of doing something they proceed to “git er done”.
Since “well done” is better than “well said” the only thing that seems to stand in the way of progress is the quality of our actions. Here is where we must exercise prayerful consideration of what we set out to do.
Understand that doing things perfectly can keep you from making an attempt to do anything at all. Many never try because they fear criticism. The word says that if we look into the law of “liberty” which includes doing things for and unto God, we are blessed “in the deed”. I interpret this to mean that as we attempt to do things by faith, we are going to make mistakes. Things may not seem so pretty but if we stick to it, we will persevere.
I encourage you to go ahead and get started with what God has given you to do and do it today. You start with prayer and once you get the confirmation in your heart that you are to proceed . . . just do it! It may not be perfect by someone else’s standard but God will see your effort and will perfect it in due time.
Refuse to let “perfect” be the enemy of “good enough” when it comes to the things of God.
